“This is one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed at, and I stayed at many. The room was generously sized and beautifully appointed with antique like furniture and ornate mirrors. But the interior was hardly old school… Nicely designed with a mix of modern fixtures. I paid for an upgraded room and had a lovely view looking right out over the canal with wall to wall windows. The staff was attentive and charming and bent over backwards to assist. I’m guessing the hotel was recently renovated because everything was beautifully painted and shiny. I rarely rave about hotels, but everything about this place was really perfect.”

“My young adult daughter and I had a wonderful 3-night stay here in January 2025. The staff welcomed us warmly and we were thrilled with our charming and very comfortable room overlooking the canal. The hotel was just as pictured on the website, and well maintained. Beds were extremely comfortable, and bathrooms were large, bright, and modern. The breakfast included with our room consisted of a large buffet and the opportunity to add hot items cooked to order. We also ate dinner in the restaurant one night and it was delicious. The hotel property is chock full with a fascinating art collection from the CoBrA artists, an artist group new to us. The neighborhood walks were a pleasure and we felt safe. We were looking for an elegant, charming, cozy, and unique hotel and we definitely found it at the Ambassade. Highly recommend and hope to return someday.”

“What an incredible stay! The hotel is in a perfect location to enjoy the city. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable.
Our room was incredible with a gorgeous view of the canal. The architecture and design of the hotel is breathtaking, we loved the loft bedroom in our suite.
We enjoyed several afternoons in the library bar reading books and playing games and it was the perfect setting for a rainy afternoon. We’ve been home for two nights and are still raving about our experience. 10/10 recommend!”

“The Ambasssade Hotel is synonymous with beautiful art, rich culture and impeccable style and class. It is located in the historical canal district of Amsterdam, a short distance away from the Schiphol airport. The service we received from guest services and the hotel staff was no less than exceptional! They remembered the details of our trip and our 30th Anniversary. They are truly hospitality experts! The staff puts great attention to details in their contact with each guest and made us feel at home. We would like to personally thank the management and staff who attended us, during our stay! We reserved the shuttle transport from the airport to hotel and enjoyed the hospitality and ride from the driver, who was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The housekeeping staff made sure our room was clean and ready. We enjoyed the best sleep on the soft mattress, luxury linens, towels and bedding. Our experience was memorable from start to finish. We also highly recommend the Brasserie Ambassade, the restaurant at the hotel. They offer great French classics, providing high quality ingredients and fresh cuisine! Their service was excellent! The cooked duck was the best I’ve ever eaten and the fresh croissant’s in the morning for breakfast were amazing & delicious. “We visited Amsterdam and the Ambassade Hotel for the first time at the beginning of the month. We enjoyed the Ambassade. We were very comfortable in our room. The staff is excellent. The location could not have been better. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and actually went back the second night and ordered the exact same entrees and they were just as wonderful the second time! “World Class Hotel“
“This was our second stay at The Ambassade, and hopefully not the last. It’s tough to write A detailed review when the actual review was very simple: The Ambassade is the best hotel we’ve ever stayed in, and we travel quite a bit. Staff could not be more professional or gracious, and they go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The hotel exudes charm and class, and the location on the canal is perfect. When you walk out the door you go right or you go left and in either direction you find the charms of Amsterdam waiting for you. Eduard will be at the front to grab your luggage, and he is a real gem. He’s full of information about places to go and things to see, and we took his advice and had a couple of great day trips because of it. We have never felt more at home when away from home than when at The Ambassade. Oh, let’s not forget the food. The breakfasts are awesome, I highly recommend including breakfast in your package when you book. You won’t find a better start to the day than eating in there Dining rooms looking out at the canals and watching the bicycles go by. It’s a great way to start the day.”
“Still The Best 35 Years and Counting“
“I usually wait until I check out before I write a review, but I feel compelled to do this now. I have been coming to HA for 35 years. From the first time I came down the steps all those years ago, this has been my home away from home in Amsterdam. I’ve come here with dear friends, my parents, and now my wife and son. My only regret is not coming more often over the years. I plan to address that. The staff is polished, professional, friendly, funny, engaging and I could easily go on with the superlatives. It seems that nothing one asks of them is impossible. Special mentions to Fleur, Mijntje, Tim, Abdul and Wim- who has become a good friend over the years. And, of course, Eelco- one of the originals here at HA a very fine hotelier. HA has been very fortunate indeed to have Eelco over the years. I see him as an important part of their success. When one walks or sails past the beautiful canal houses of Amsterdam, one has to ask what it would be like to live in such a place. You need not imagine this when you stay at HA as you are doing exactly that. I’ve stayed in many of their rooms and they are invariably clean, comfortable and well-appointed. Try to get a room with a canal view if possible. The breakfast is so good you want to eat it all and it is served is an airy and art-filled room overlooking the Herengracht. This is the same room where the Brasserie Ambassade in located. We have not eaten there yet on this trip. The Library bar has a revolving drinks list and is the place for a pre-dinner libation or snack. If you Google Map the hotel’s location, you will immediately see that the location is perfect and cannot be beat. Newer, glitzier and more trendy hotels will come and go and I wish them all success. The standards in this city and country are so high that one is likely to have a nice stay wherever they choose to go. In my humble opinion, however, nothing trumps HA.”

“If you want a historic, charming, full-service hotel with a world-class restaurant on a canal, look no further that the Ambassade. We loved the location-close enough to everything you’d want to see but far enough off the main tourist areas to feel residential and quiet. The staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. The room was comfortable and clean; we slept well. We chose the breakfast included option and enjoyed a delicious cooked to order meal each morning. Again, we can not say enough about the staff, they were truly outstanding! A gem. “Had a magnificent 4 night stay at the Ambassade. Situated across a picturesque canal , the location was perfect, the staff friendly and knowledgeable , the rooms clean and spacious and the breakfast delicious and plentiful. The hotel was actually sold out when we first inquired but as soon as a room opened up the staff was quickly responsive and able to accommodate. If you are looking for a first class boutique hotel with charm and ambiance look no further. I can’t wait to visit this charming city again and stay at my new favorite hotel. My husband and I stayed here in February and it was one of our most favorite hotel stays EVER! Our room had a beautiful view of the canals. The service here was beyond. We especially loved spending time at night at the hotel bar playing chess (and a big thank you to the bartender for lending me his chess tips as I’m still learning). Breakfast was delicious. My husband bought me a bunch of flowers at the floating markets and the hotel obliged me with a vase as soon as I walked in with my bouquet. The girls at the office helped me print my concert tickets. Walking distance to everything you could possibly want to see. We daydream about this hotel all of the time and will definitely be back! A big thank you to all of the staff here, it’s a beautiful hotel, but they made this stay really stand out.”

“A hotel made up by joining together a series of townhomes, it’s like no place we’ve stayed before and we loved it. The location is excellent, we walked all over the city, we had beautiful views from our room (facing the back canal), the breakfast service was very good and our dinner at the restaurant our first night was excellent. We also enjoyed the Library Bar, a nice place to finish off the evening with a quiet cocktail. The wine selection was very nice and reasonably priced. My husband and I agreed we were really happy we chose this hotel rather than a bigger or more corporate brand, it felt authentically part of the city.”

“I have been staying at the Ambassade since my first trip to Amsterdam, which was fifty years ago! And it just keeps getting better and better. The location could not be more ideal. The rooms are spotless and stylish. The public spaces downstairs are comfortable and inviting. The breakfast — absolutely delicious, with prompt and friendly service. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and cheerful. This time I traveled with my 9 year old granddaughter and she commented right away how nice everyone was to us. I have absolutely no complaints, no suggestions for improvement. They do everything with great care and concern for your well being. Honestly I sometimes want to stop by this city just so I could have a few days at the Ambassade. I always book a room with a canal view. “I’ve followed this hotel’s growth for over 40 years, from a small, elegant-yet-simple inn in the 1980’s to a still small, very elegant and polished boutique hotel in 2024. It is a stunning place, well run, with excellent staff and charming rooms; the canal-facing room where we stayed last week was high-ceilinged, light & airy, with a fabulous bathroom and impeccable amenities. The location is superb (near everything, yet quiet) and the breakfast first-rate. Finally, the in-house restaurant was terrific, with an interesting menu of gorgeously prepared and presented food. “This was such an amazing and wonderful hotel in the heart of Amsterdam! From the minute we arrived, the warm and welcoming staff left no detail out. Our lovely room overlooked the canal and the heated bathroom floor and towel rack was amazing! Our breakfast was huge and included options for hot choices as well as a complete buffet of breads, fruit, nuts, cheeses and yoghurt to name a few items. We also had an incredible dinner meal that seated us by a window overlooking the canal. The staff was so engaging and gave us ideas about places to see and go as well as suggestions for places to eat. Would go back to the Ambassade in a minute! A jewel!”
